First graders made the snowmen in two art classes, second graders created the penguins in two art classes. LOVE working with papier mache with my students!
I've done this lesson the past two years and the results are always wonderful! We read Snowmen at Night and discuss the illustrations, particularly looking at how the illustrator shows form using highlight and shadow. The kids get so into these drawings and adding details! Many staff members comment on how great they look hanging up in the hallway!
This is one of those lessons that turns out beautiful every year and the kids just love doing this painting! I don't like to repeat lessons often, but this one is a keeper! I switched it up a little this year and focused on depth by painting branches behind the birds....
