Texture Sandwiches







I got this lesson from http://kidsartists.blogspot.com and just had to make them with my 5th graders! The main focuss was on texture. I put out boxes of stuff and the kids had a great time stacking their sandwich items. First, we made the table cloth and plate. Next, we added the bun which is made from torn up cardboard, so that the ridges show. Then they had to fill the space between the buns! The kids had to be reminded that the items had to look like a food item. They couldn't just glue pink tissue paper on "just because."

Cat In the Hat







Dr. Seuss's birthday is coming up in March! In honor of his birthday anniversary, 3rd graders learned interesting facts about him, like what his real name is, why he went by the name "Dr." and what book he only used 50 different words in. Student drew one of his most famous characters, The Cat in the Hat. They drew w/pencil first, outlined w/sharpie next, then added the red marker on hat and bow.

Tinted Hearts







1st graders had fun learning that white + red = pink! They added texture and pattern with plastic forks dipped into white tempera paint.

Chalk Hearts




3rd graders had to choose all warm or cool colors for their Valentine's Day hearts. They used chalk and they each made a heart stencil that they cut smaller and smaller as they worked.

Valentine's Day Hearts







I love how these turned out! 1st graders learned how to make tints while painting hearts using Valentines colors. They then used scrap painted paper scraps, (pre-cut,) and added them to the boarder using brads to connect them. We added glitter around our hearts for fun too! : )

Cat on a Rug







2nd graders first painted a paper with watercolor paints. They could make an abstract pattern or realistic (colors a cat really could be). The rest of that art class we worked on our rugs. The next day, they drew cats step-by-step on the back of their paintings. We cut them out and added details on the front with sharpies :)

Printmaking Snowmen







2nd graders drew their snowmen with pencil on scrap paper. Then they taped the paper over foam, traced their drawings with pencil, removed scrap paper and traced their drawing one more time with pencil. Next, they used white tempera paint and painted their foam using a brayer. We pressed our artworks in the center of a light blue paper (they need help centering) and lastly we added snowflake prints using stamps student made! I have also done this with adaptive art class, but we just drew our snowmen right into the foam. I also had circles for them to trace, they turned out nice!
