Papier Mache Animals
5th graders created these papier mache animals using recycled materials! You can see from the bottom picture here, they used creamer shaped bottles, news paper, tag board and tape to create their armature for their animal. The next art class they had to distress one color of construction paper and papier mached over their armature. The class after they drew on details (eyes, mouth, legs) with pencil and went in and painted it these details. The class after they decorated with yarn, pipe cleaners, gems, ribbon, what ever they needed! I love when students say, "I wan't to do this"...."How can we do that?" and we brainstorm how to can do it! That is what art is all about, problem solving! I just adore these three unicorns and how they each went about decorating it differently!

Hot Air Balloons!
4th graders made these awesome papier mache hot air balloons. We started with a small balloon and taped a small dixi cup to the bottom. Then the kids mached the entire thing with paper (I didn't have enough newspaper or brown paper bag) which worked fine. The next day they picked one color construction paper to mache over the entire thing. Day after they cut out designs and mached them on. Last day, they attached the basket with string! I used an exacto knife to cut the bottoms (baskets) off before class. They look great hanging up even though my picture is kind of dark!

Our Keller Cougar Mural
The students and I have been busy this school year slowly painting a new mural in our school! We projected our school mascot onto the wall, traced it and added some squares to give it an abstract look!
