Snow Plow Blade Ideas?

My school, (actualy two of my three schools), has been chosen to paint the front of our city snow plow blades. Each blade is 3 feet by 9 feet. Any ideas for what to paint on them with my students? I'm thinking of choosing one class to do the work, and we only have two or three classes to prim and paint it!

  1. What fun! A couple of ideas: looking inside a mouth, with teeth, tongue, etc. Or since the plow is a winter-only item, how about a real summery theme? Such as a flaming hot sunshine and some tropical flowers, or a beach scene, or butterflies? What kind of paint will be used to keep the artwork intact?

  2. Famous artist inspired works! Spread some culture and art history around town. Starry Night by Van Gogh, Field of Van Gogh style sun flowers, Piet Mondrian squares, Rousseau Jungle with leaves/tigers/exotic birds/flowers. Colorful Henri Matisse oranic shape collage. So many fun options!

  3. Great ideas! There may be a “theme” now that we have to follow. I’ll have to check into that, I think it was something about community. I only have two art classes to do this. One class will be spent priming, the next all the painting. So the idea will have to be pretty basic. I love the sunset idea or a giant mouth opening. I also think Starry Night would be so pretty! Thanks!

  4. How about kids holding hands across the blade? You could use a child, boy/girl template to trace them on and the kids could add fun hats, scarves and boots!
